Amanda spürte Alvins und Elliots Misstrauen. Sie verbarg ihr Unbehagen und führte die Kinder ruhig zum Sofa. Nachdem Amanda sich eine Woche lang zu Hause ausgeruht hatte, war ihre Beinverletzung gut verheilt und sie konnte bereits ohne Hilfe gehen.

Trotzdem machten sich Lysa und die Kinder über ihren Zustand Sorgen und bestanden darauf, dass sie sich noch ein paar Tage zu Hause ausruhte. Als sich die drei auf dem Sofa niederließen, blieben die Kinder auf die abgelehnten Blumen konzentriert und fragten: „Mama, warum hast du die Blumen nicht angenommen?“

Amanda hatte mit der Frage ihrer Kinder nicht gerechnet und wusste kaum eine Antwort.
